Above ground bin vs. in ground pit for vermicomposting

by Terry
(Conway, Ar. )

I am ready to start my composting and have tried to find information on bin or pit designs. I live in Conway Arkansas which in in Zone 7 agriculture zone. I am not interested in selling "bait worms" or "organic compost". I had plans for an 8 foot by 8 foot above ground bin but having done a short literature revue I am not sure which style would be the best for me. I am unable to locate any worm farmers in the area and just happened across your web site if you could at least provide me some literature or web sites that I could go to help me locate some designs that I could use in this part of the country. Thank You!

There are several resources that would help you. if you go to www.findworms.com (cut and paste to your browser) you can find a local worm farmer. I like raised beds because they are easier on your back, but it really is a personal choice. As long as you line the bottom with hardware cloth, you can make a bin in any size. The cloth will protect from moles, even if you have never seen a mole, they will find your worm bins, so it is a good preventative. here is a link to an inground system that might interest you.link to pit design

Hope this helps.
