BigTex Worms Farm

Come take a tour of BigTex Worms Farm. AKA my backyard!

This page will serve to show you my farm work in progress. We purchased this homestead in 2010.

We have a modest 1800 square foot home (built in 1974) with 0.5 acres just outside a suburban area. Our city has a population of over 55,000, not so rural Texas. But we are a bit off the beaten path. Although our side street receives a bit of traffic (which you might hear in my videos) just across the road is a pasture with horses. I can sit out on my front swing and watch the horses graze and listen to my goats bahhh in the background.

We have 4 chickens and 5 goats. My goal is to convert all my current flowerbeds into edible landscaping. We raise chickens as pets and for eggs. We have all hens and hope to add to the flock this spring (2012) and possibly sell eggs to friends/neighbors. Our girls names are minnie, ice cream (the first two are also known as the twin twirps: they are quirky english game hens), autumn and pumpkin. I have been so pleasantly surprised by owning chickens. They are fun pets and do a great job keeping snakes away.

Our goats were purchased in 2011 as pets, two does. (Chloe and GiGi) Much to our surprise, they both were pregnant and soon we went from 2 goats to 6 goats! The babies names are snickers, cookies n cream, and snowball. Our kids were thrilled but hay is so expensive so we sold one in the fall. (cici lives just down the street and is spoiled rotten by her new owners) I purchased the goats for two reasons, one they are nice pets for our girls and also their manure serves as feedstock for my worm bins, SCORE!

I will be updating this page from time to time with photos of my garden.

BigTex Worms now offers edible planters: veggie and herb containers. Click here to see them now.
