breeding worms for fishing
hi
i have made my own wormery with a 30 litre bin with a good lid, i have added three 250gr boxes of dendrobaenas with a total of about 650 worms of various size, this is my first time starting this and i am doing it for to not only save money on fishing worms for bait but to give me a constant supply of worms when needed, this is my main reason, although any compost i will use on my garden, what i really want to know is i bought a packet of worm fattener for fishing worms and if i am only using the worms for fishing anyway am i best just to use worm fattener to feed them ? or should i use all the other foodstuffs recommended for the wormery
please let me know and any advice welcome, thank you.

It depends on your ultimate goal. If your goal is to simply use the worms for fishing then yes, just use the fattener or grains to feed. But if you want to make nutrient rich castings to use in your garden, then I believe fruit/veggie scraps provide a better casting for fertilizer use. As far as using the fattener, start out using a very small amount, sometimes the fatteners heat the bin and can cause worm death. Sprinkle in one corner, wet it down and wait a few days to make sure the worms are eating it. If it molds, you added too much, if it is gone, then add more. YOu will likely have to feed the fattener 2-3 times per week. It can become costly, but if your goal is fat fishing worms, it is the way to go.
