cocoons

by Gary Kimball
(Sikeston Mo.)

i would like to know when cocoons will start hatching? is their anything to do? Thanks Gary k.
Answer from BigTex Worms
Earthworm cocoons hatch in about 3 weeks IF the temp is constant around 70-80 degrees and the moisture level is around 80%. If either of these variables is not constant, then they will take longer or many not hatch at all. Cocoons stay dormant during cold weather and hatch in the spring.
In a new bin, it will be months before you start seeing baby worms.
