Composting for kids is a super way to teach children about recycling; using worms makes it even more fun for them. Of course this is coming from a mom who happens to be a worm farmer!
You can make your child their very own worm composter, allow them to maintain it by feeding and applying bedding. They will monitor moisture levels and temperature. Then they get to harvest the castings to use in the garden as an all natural fertilizer.
Earthworm composting teaches us the full cycle of life. We eat produce - give the scraps to the worms with some shredded paper or coconut fiber- the worms digest the materials - they give us worm poop - we use the castings in the garden to grow more produce to start all over again.
