Concrete block worm bins

by Ray H
(Spokane WA)

can concrete blocks be used in a containment area for worm composting? I live in the northwest and can have some long winters usually 4 to 5 months. We also compost yard waste, leaves and vegtable matter.

Answer from BigTex Worms
Absolutely, you can pretty much use any hard material to make a worm bin. Just do not neglect to use hardware cloth on the bottom on the bin to protect from predators AND make sure you have lid to protect from the elements (sun/rain).
You cannot treat it like an outdoor compost pile, it still needs to me maintained like a worm bin: right temperature, moisture, food and bedding.
Hope this helps,
Liz
