Dry bin?

by Daisy
(Saratoga, NY)

My bin seems to be on the dry side. Up until recently, I would see some condensation on the lid when I opened it. Now there is none, and the bedding seems on the dry side. Should I mist it? Or add moisture in some way? My worms are having plenty of cocoons, but the number of worms doesn't seem to be increasing...? Maybe it just takes a while for them to get big enough to make a noticeable difference.

Thanks Liz

Now that you gave a "grip" on worm composting, yes I would suggest you moistening the bin. If you have moved the bin outside, you might want to leave a few sheets of newspaper atop your bedding to help keep the moisture in. Keeping it moist is important in the heat. And if it is drier the coccons wont hatch.
Also, when you harvest, you will likely be surprised the number of worms you will have. They tend to look much less in number in the bin.
