Feeding Frozen Food Scraps

by Dave
(Lititz, Pa)

Liz,

I followed your advise and ground up a large amount of food scraps at one time feeding some and freezing the rest. My question is do you put the scraps in frozen or do you microwave it first?

As always, thank you very much
Dave form PA

Answer from BigTex Worms:

You can do either but in the winter, I would thaw them first, either on the countertop or microwave would be ok too. But if you microwave them, make sure they are totally cooled off before placing in the bin. If your bin is cold outside and you put in frozen food, it may not thaw.

Another advantage of thawing before placing in the bin is that you can see if it is too wet before putting it in there and either drain it or add dry bedding with that feed.

Hope this helps,
Liz
