Hard boiled eggs

Hi Liz! We got our worms on Tuesday and was so excited to see so many babies in the bucket!! I had never seen a baby worm before so that was way cool. 48 hours later, all seems to be going wonderfully. I fed yesterday and tonight I noticed quite a few in the food area and none roaming around so they must be happy. I feel very prepared after watching all the videos, reading all your materials, and knowing you are available to answer questions... So, here's my first. :-)

I've read that it is good to feed the worms egg shells but what about hard boiled eggs? We accidentally left some out and now I don't feel safe eating them. I think I read somewhere else that eggs are not a good idea. Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Answer from BigTex Worms:
So glad you feel prepared buying from me. :)

You answered your own question but just dont know it.
Anything you feel is rotten or not safe for eating, you should not put in the worm bin. Worm composting is cold composting, therefore it will NOT kill bacteria. So if by chance the eggs have salmonella in them, you will transfer that to the worm bin, to the castings then if you use it in your garden, your growing food.
This is why I never put meat, dairy or eggs in my bins. Yuck.
Hope this helps,
Liz
