Harvesting Worm Barrels

About two to three times a year I harvest my worm barrels. Each barrel holds about 10 pound of worms.

Every time I harvest the barrels I collect about 10-15 gallons of castings. So roughly 30 gallons of castings made from two 40 gallon barrels.

It is not an easy process. Even though the barrels are "flow through" the castings don't flow through on their own.

I have to literally get down on the ground and rake the castings out of the barrels. It is hard on my back, knees and arms. It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour.

If I could have some kind of automation to these barrels, it would be awesome but as of right now it is VERY labor intensive.

The pictures are my storage bin before, after and the bottom of the barrel full and waiting for me to gather the castings.

Do you have a flow through worm bin that works great? I would love to hear about it.
