I have started vermicomposting and I use Einsenia hortensis (European Nightcrawler) instead of Einsenia fetida (your red wigglers), I would like to raise all these plus the african Nightcrawler eventually, this is of a totally different genus. My question is - if I mixed these two of the same genus, would they hybridize? And would it be bad?

Answer from BigTex Worms:
Good question, one I do not have the answer for.
I do know that there are sellers out there who sell hybrid worms I just dont know which breeds they have crossed. It would be my assumption that nightcrawlers and reds would NOT be a good mix since they require very different habitats but that is just a guess.
Sorry I could not be more help,
