I am so excited. Last week I purchased a Kitchen Compost Container and boy am I happy.
My kitchen used to be swarming with
fruit flies
and my husband was not happy in the least to have a slimy bag of rotting scraps in the kitchen sink all the time. Those days are long gone. I bought this kitchen compost pail off amazon myself :):
And I love it. It fits under my sink and stores 2.4 gallons of scraps (the biggest one I found), snaps closed to deter fruit flies and best of all has a filter to prevent stinkiness. OH and it is very simple to clean being plastic. I just wash it out with dishsoap in my kitchen sink. Best $20 I have spent in a long time.
But if you prefer something a bit more decorative that you can put on top of your counter, one of these might suit you better: it is called a compost crock:This one has a beautiful rustic look
This white ceramic version has a charcoal filter as well. It has a one gallon capacity.
This stainless steel version boasts of easy cleaning and it has a charcoal filter like the one I have which reduces odors.
I hope one of these meets your needs and I also hope you love it as much as I love mine.
If you would prefer to go the reuse/recycle route. You can use an airtight container of anykind. Old tupperware, mason jars, ziploc bags, paper sacks, shopping bags, you name it.
