Paper shreds in worm bin

I use paper shreds in my worm bins for a variety of reasons.

I use them as feedstock when I am going away for a week or so.
I use them to cover food to deter fruit flies.
I use them dry to mix into a bin when it is too wet and I want to even out the moisture levels.

As you can see paper shreds are a valuable part of any worm farmers bag of tricks.

A few tips about paper shreds:
Make sure your printer uses a vegetable based ink. Most do, but the oil based inks are no good for your bin so you want to make sure before using newspaper shreds.

The smaller the shreds the better. I use a cross cut confetti paper shredder. You can hand shred them but it will take the worms a lot longer to digest them.
