Putting Worms in my garden?

Thanks Liz. I may try that. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy raising them.

Putting Worms in my garden?
by: Anonymous

When I decided to start raising worms, I thought I'd put worms and castings under my plants as I planted them.

I now see that would be sending the worms to their death. Castings are fine, but worms no.

So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with all those worms in a few months.

I've seen suggestions where to sell, but not sure I care to get involved in selling.

What's the reason my worms will die in the ground? My garden has lots of manure. I mulch with manure. I have quite a bit of manure down about 8-10 inches. Wouldn't this help keep them there? What is it about the red wigglers that will cause them to die?

Note from Big Tex Worms :
Red wigglers are top dwellers not burrowers. They will only survive in soil IF your conditions are the same you keep them in a bin: moist, lots of food, correct ph, protected from predators, ect.
If you have lots of manure, you can give it a try, but my opinion is if you have healthy soil you will attract the native worms which is what you really want, not foreigners trying to survive. :)
A good place to sell extra worms is on Craigslist.
