What should you NOT to feed worms

Hello Liz,

I have a question on the kinds of food NOT to feed my worms.
I know peppers, onions, salty foods, meat, or spicy foods are not good, but what about potatoes or bread scraps? I was told that they are no-no's, is this true?
Also what about herb plants, such as basil?
Is there anything else worms should definitively NOT be fed?

Thank you,
Valerie

Answer from BigTex Worms:
Let me start by saying worms will eat anything. ANYTHING. But some foods are not preferable because they can alter the ph of your worm bin or they will stink and attract rodents during decomposition.
I precompost all my scraps in a traditional compost pile then add it to my worm bins. I do not include bread or any starches, meat and dairy. ALL produce scraps I include.
I hope this answers your question, if not, put a reply in the comments section and I will elaborate further.

Liz
