Worm Bin Hole Placement and Spacing

by Amanda
(Indiana)

Hi again,

Thanks for the helpful information, you've already provided. The main question I have left is where on the box should I put the holes and how far apart?

Also, I do not have a place to buy the coir... would peat moss be a suitable substitute? Should I use all peat moss in the box or should I do what I found somewhere else on your site.. half newspapers and half peat?

Also should I put anything else in their bin to start with. I've read on other sites to put a bit of compost and coffee shells in. Would you recommend this?

Thanks so much!

Amanda

I just finished my video on making a new bin. The answers to your questions are covered in it. You can view it on youtube at: making a bin video
And just fyi, any pet store will carry coconut coir, it is used for reptile bedding. It is much better than peat. This video also answers your question about newspaper shreds.
