Worm Composting Business

So, ya thinkin 'bout starting a worm composting business, huh?

I have a LOT of people, who buy worms from me wanting to start a commercial worm farm operation.

In the 5 years I have been teaching classes and selling worms, there are two new worm suppliers that came from my worms and teaching. But I would estimate I have had 50-60 people say they are going to do it but......

Worm Farming is NOT a get rich quick scheme. In fact, it is not even a get rich slow scheme. What it is : A LOT of work. Dirty, stinky, year round kinda work. The sales are VERY seasonal. I sell most of my orders March, April, May and September. The rest of the months it is super slow. But the worms still need to be tended to year round.

Us worm farmers, get no respect either. People expect to "drop by" to see the farm and ask you a million questions for free, 7 days a week. And you will get the occasional complaint that you are charging way to much for "God's worms".

All that being said, I love being in the worm composting business. It allows me to grow organic food for my family and teach the trade to others, while providing a supplement to our families income.

Now for what you really want to know. How much do I make? Under $4000 a year. That is teaching 10-12 classes a year and selling worms locally and online. If I were to calculate the hours I work, I guarantee you it is way below minimum wage.

Still think you might want to start a business like this? Read this 100+ page book on the in's and out's first.

OR this is another good read:
